Q&A - Passing More Than One Vehicle

Q&A ImageMe and my fiancé are arguing about passing while driving. One of us says that no matter what, passing more than one vehicle at a time is illegal. The other says that, if it is safe to do so: no on coming traffic etc. one may pass more than one single vehicle. Please inform.

Yes, if it is safe to do so, you may pass more than one vehicle when you are passing on the left.

The law on it is quite simple:

Passing on left

159 A driver of a vehicle must not drive to the left side of the roadway in overtaking and passing another vehicle unless the driver can do so in safety.

Clear view on passing

160 A driver of a vehicle must not drive to or on the left side of the roadway, other than on a one way highway, unless the driver has a clear view of the roadway for a safe distance, having regard for all the circumstances.

So, as long as you can see far enough to make sure that it is safe, and it is safe, you may pass traffic on the left. Traffic could be one or more vehicles.
