VIEWPOINT - A Case for Lane Filtering

motorcycleCurrently in BC, motorcycles are required to sit in traffic like any other automobile is expected to, but this is very dangerous for motorcyclists! The solution is 'lane filtering', a practice vilified by the general driving public in much of North America.

Q&A - LSM in Bike Lanes

motorcycleI have a 49cc gas scooter. Its top speed is only 50kph, so I try to stay in the bicycle lane if traffic is heavy. I have searched drivesafebc.ca and ICBC but cannot find articles on whether this is legal.

If I was riding in the bike lane and was in an accident with a vehicle that made a right hand turn in front of me, who would be at fault?

VIDEO - ICBC's Gear It or Shear It Series

ICBC LogoICBC has produced two new videos aimed at making sure motorcycle riders use proper safety gear to protect themselves in the event of a crash. The first two videos are on riding pants and riding gloves. Protecting your hands and legs with the right gear as opposed to work gloves and blue jeans are shown. The third compares full face and partial helmets.

Off Road Vehicle Registration Required After June 1, 2015

Off Road Vehicle Licence PlateIf you intend to operate your off road vehicle (ORV) anywhere on public lands after June 1, 2015 you have just three weeks left to register it through ICBC. When the vehicle is registered an off road vehicle licence plate will be issued and must be displayed. The  changes replaced outdated legislation governing British Columbia’s growing off-road sector, and helps ensure these vehicles are driven in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Q&A - Operating an LSM with Class 7L

New Driver Signs 2011I just bought a 50 cc scooter and was really hoping you could help me with two questions. It is a 2003 Yamaha BWS. First, can I drive it with my Learners license? I am turning 16 in a week, and know many people who ride them around with they're L, or so they say, but I can't find any for sure legislation. Second, can I take two people with my L?

Q&A - Displaying a Temporary Permit

motorcycleWhen I get a temporary permit for my motorcycle that has a plate with an expired decal do I need to have the permit showing or can I carry it in my pocket as I'm worried about it blowing off if I try and put it on the back of the bike?

VIDEO - Effective Motorcycle Braking

video iconThis video is part of a series from the Motorcycle Council of New South Wales, Australia. It compares and contrasts front and rear wheel only braking and teaches that effective braking is a combination of both.

Q&A - Rules About Scooters

motorcycleHi, I’ve scoured the net for laws for scooters and I can’t find very much.  I live in North Vancouver so there are a lot of hills.  My scooter drops down to as low as 20 with some hills so, of course, drivers don’t like this.  I move over to the right (bicycle lanes) but have been told that we are not allowed to use bicycle lanes.

Q&A - Proper Licence Plate Display

motorcycleI have a 2007 harley can I mount my license plate on the left side on the axel bolt . It will also be well lighted.?

Q&A - Motorcycle HOV Lane Use

motorcycleI'm kind of in a dilemma here. I understand how HOV lanes work and that motorcycles are exempt for the 2 person or more rule. My issue is with the ones in towns rather than the highways. Some of the lanes are marked only with a bicycle (which i get are for them only), but most are marked with a bicycle AND a diamond.
