Q&A - Pedestrian Right of Way

Q&A ImageMy question regards the right of way of pedestrians who are in the roadway illegally, i.e. they have disobeyed a control signal or have failed to yield to traffic as per section 180. The thought came to me after watching this clip from the United Kingdom, intended to illustrate proper horn use:

Q&A - Problem With Cyclist at Intersection

CyclistI wanted to turn left from one angled road onto another angled road.

Two vehicles were stopped at the stop sign.

The first vehicle was turning right and as he did, I prepared to turn left...suddenly I have a cyclist turning left from the same spot as the car; the cyclist was not obvious tucked beside the car. I could have hit the cyclist.

Q&A - Driving While Wearing Hearing Protection

Q&A ImageWhat are the laws in BC about wearing hearing protection while operating a non-commercial vehicle?

I drive a diesel panel van, and the noise level in the cab is VERY high at highway speeds - to the point that conversation is difficult and my ears ring after extended drives.  I am concerned about hearing damage, so would like to wear hearing protection.

RANT - Honk When Locking

SoapboxOver the last 15 months I have had an issue in regards to horn honking in our neighborhood. I think the problem can easily be resolved by education.

Many vehicle owners have picked up some really bad habits and possibly don't know that their bad habits are affecting others.

Q&A ImageI commute every day from Buckley Bay to Parksville in the morning and back after work. It is dark in the morning and still darkish in the evening.

I try to keep a “driving diary” to alert myself to repeated issues. One of the things that has been appearing frequently in my diary is “truck or car in front of me driving without lights”.

Q&A - Tire Chains on Commercial Vehicles

commercial vehicle chain signYesterday we drove up the Coquihalla from Hope, the plow trucks were doing a wonderful job on the highway but there was no care taken to plow out the chain-up pull-outs for commercial trucks. So now the trucks are all lined up along the right lane of the road, thus forcing regular traffic into one lane.

Q&A - Tire Chains for 55 Passenger Bus

commercial vehicle chain signI am trying to get confirmation on the law regarding chain requirements for a BC commercial 55 passenger bus for winter driving.

The wording of the law is ambiguous. It states that school buses must carry chains and Commercial transport trucks must carry chains when driving on the highway, but that passenger vehicles are not required to carry chains.

Q&A - Alarm Sirens as Horns

motorcycleCan anyone please tell me if there is any provision in law to be allowed to use a siren type of alarm noise generated by say a bike alarm to be used as part of your horn mechanism.

One huge problem for bikes is that cars don't see or hear you very well. Having a loud siren type of horn as a last ditch attempt to show people where I am on the road would make a big difference.

What is the law regarding
