DATA - Motor Vehicle Act Offences 2015

Ticket WriterLast year I wrote "The Police Never Write Tickets For..." in respose to those who complained on the subject but really had no idea of whether their belief was true or not. After looking at the list, they could either justify their complaint or be satisfied that the opposite was really true. Comments

Thanks to you and ICBC!

Good to see them coming out with the latest statistical information on traffic tickets in BC.

No major variations noted so far, but I think this is new:

Section 215.43(2)(a) 90 Day Fail Immediate Roadside Prohibition 9,200

Surprisingly, tickets for cell phone use have dropped a bit. Subjectively observed, it's a habit that doesn't seem to be decreasing.

You're Welcome!

I asked them not to round the numbers, but I guess I should be happy that they gave me what they did free for the asking.

I didn't include the impaired driving sections last year thinking that they really weren't tickets but decided to just sort and show the list this year.

tickets

Are tickets making a difference? Is there enough follow up to ever get to the goal of zero. Should British Columbians be satistied with fatality rates higher than the Canadian average and consistently higher than Ontario?

Should not getting there accident free be more important than geting there faster?.

Don't want a ticket-follow BC road laws. It's apparent that far too many don't.Many thousands of BC drivers don't get it on road safety-they get tickets.

BC is one of the best places on earth - this doesn't mean the BC Government should not do better on road safety.

Speed related charges

I get a much higher number than you got, just the first 2 add up to more than your total of 122,713, they add up to 126,000 alone.

I added up 146(3), 146(1), 146(7), 148(1), 147(1), 147(2), 146(5) 144(1)(c) and get 163,200 which is 36.75% of the speed related charges, or am I missing somthing? I had to ask.

I'll Check.

Goodness knows, maybe my calculator was broken yesterday....

LOL

Easy enough to hit a wrong button part way through as well, thought it might be me as well :-)

Missed Some Zeros

I somehow managed to add 4500 instead of 45000. Funny how "nothing" can make a difference.

That's Hilarious

Yes it is amazing nothing can add so much, I see you did add 146(11) & 157(2)(b) as well.

One of Two

146(11) yes, and after some thought, decided not to include increase speed while being passed 157(2)(b). It's negligible.

Negligible?

As I mentioned recently in another thread, few tickets are written for this.

But that's disappointing, as this is very aggressive behaviour, to my mind.

They sure do write up an awful lot of tickets for speeding offences, eh?

number of tickets is way too low to change behavior

Lots ot tickets? Consider if the Malahat IRU Speed campaign was conducted daily, 24 hours a day for a year, there would be over 100,000 tickets for speeding, instead of a few hundred on non routine blitzes.Numbers  that continue to disappoint traffic police, but are reality on our roads.

Who will take responsiblity for the next fatal accident on the Malahat? Some of the victims are completely innocent ,following rules of the road. It could be you, me, family or friends.

What is required to significantly lower the fatltity and serious injury rate on BC roads is leadership from the BC Government .Why should British Columbians expect to die on BC roads at at  a higher rate than the Canadian average and twice the rate of  Ontario?

Ah yes, good call.

That is possible they may not have been speeding. It's amazing how bad drivers somehow put the blame on drivers slightly under the speed limit on windy sections of a hwy and then speed up those few kms/hr when it straightens out, many bad drivers actually state that FORCES them to speed to get by when nothing could be farther from the truth, they even claim it's aggressive behavior when in fact the impatient speeder is the aggressive driver.

Of course if the slower driver is well under the limit and creates a string of traffic they should remain slow when reaching the passing lane to allow vehicles to pass and I'm assuming that's some of the few that indeed got the tickets for 157(2)(b), but many bad poor attitude drivers think that if your not dead on the speed limit or higher your driving to slow, many even believe you should drive 10 km/hr over because you probably won't get a ticket, and after all they see the maximum posted speed as a suggestion rather than the law, but even if the slower driver does speed up so you can't pass legally you should just relax and enjoy the drive anyways, turning dangerous just to get by is not worth risking lives just to save a few minutes.

It's amazing what a lack of proper driving knowledge will do to bad drivers attitudes, blaming the law abiding drivers for their impatience and the whole time actually thinking they are the good drivers, I know as I was a teenager once as well, but some drivers just never grow up or learn.
