Q&A - Rules About Scooters

motorcycleHi, I’ve scoured the net for laws for scooters and I can’t find very much.  I live in North Vancouver so there are a lot of hills.  My scooter drops down to as low as 20 with some hills so, of course, drivers don’t like this.  I move over to the right (bicycle lanes) but have been told that we are not allowed to use bicycle lanes.

B.C.'s Bad Driver of the Week 2

BC's Bad Driver of the Week this week is one that has difficulty turning left from a business parking lot onto a busy highway. The vehicle turns into a two way left turn lane, drives along it for about a block and then moves to the right when traffic moves enough to let the driver in. Legally, the only way out of a two way left turn lane is to turn left. Moving out of it the way this driver did is an offence.

BC's Bad Driver of the Week

Perhaps a public shaming could be effective in convincing some drivers that they need to share the roadway a bit better with the rest of us. Now that I have my own dash cam I am in a position to highlight how some people put themselves ahead of others when it comes to convenience over road safety. This particular driver overtook on the painted traffic island on Mostar Road in Nanaimo, B.C.

Q&A - Swinging Wide to Pass

Q&A ImageI was walking with a friend on a relatively busy road. (West Crescent)

Left Turns Into the Correct Lane

Left Turn SignalA Courtenay resident is upset with drivers that turn left from the Island Highway onto Ryan Road and fail to enter the first available lane. He identifies this as a problem for drivers traveling in the opposite direction on the highway wanting to turn right onto Ryan Road.

Q&A - Motorcycle HOV Lane Use

motorcycleI'm kind of in a dilemma here. I understand how HOV lanes work and that motorcycles are exempt for the 2 person or more rule. My issue is with the ones in towns rather than the highways. Some of the lanes are marked only with a bicycle (which i get are for them only), but most are marked with a bicycle AND a diamond.

Cutting the Corner

Cutting the CornerI live beside a road where I can watch an "S" curve out of my window and visibility is limited due to vegetation on both sides. I don't have to watch for long before a see a driver who "straightens out the S" by driving more or less in a straight line through the corners.

Q&A - Dead Body in Hearse Qualify for HOV Lane Use?

Q&A ImageCan a funeral home employee use the HOV lane after picking of a deceased person when transferring to funeral home from place of death?  Would the deceased person qualify as a second person for the HOV lane with the driver?

How to Politely Allow a Traffic Violation

Share the Road SignI'm almost always pleased to see another driver exercise courtesy on our highways because it cancels out some of the selfishness that I see every day. I say almost because I saw a misguided act of kindness today that left me shaking my head. One driver made room so that the other driver could make an illegal lane change from a side road through surrounding standing traffic.

Q&A - HOV Lane Enforcement

Q&A ImageI have been commuting into Vancouver along Highway 1 and have noticed that the HOV lanes have an unacceptable percentage of single occupant vehicles. My estimate is that between 25% and 30% of vehicles are single occupant.
