VIDEO - ICBC's Gear It or Shear It Series

ICBC LogoICBC has produced two new videos aimed at making sure motorcycle riders use proper safety gear to protect themselves in the event of a crash. The first two videos are on riding pants and riding gloves. Protecting your hands and legs with the right gear as opposed to work gloves and blue jeans are shown. The third compares full face and partial helmets.

Off Road Vehicle Registration Required After June 1, 2015

Off Road Vehicle Licence PlateIf you intend to operate your off road vehicle (ORV) anywhere on public lands after June 1, 2015 you have just three weeks left to register it through ICBC. When the vehicle is registered an off road vehicle licence plate will be issued and must be displayed. The  changes replaced outdated legislation governing British Columbia’s growing off-road sector, and helps ensure these vehicles are driven in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. CASE LAW - Vance v Cartwright

BC Courts Coat of ArmsWilliam Vance was riding an unlicenced, uninsured off road motorcycle southbound on 198 Street in Langley, B.C. He was not wearing a helmet and was exceeding the speed limit. Cristine Cartwright was eastbound on 21 Avenue and had stopped at the stop sign before entering 198 Street intending to turn northbound. Vision was limited for drivers on 21 avenue looking northbound by roadside vegetation.

NEWS - Changes to Motorcycle Safety Laws

BC FlagThe Minister of Justice announced changes to the Motor Vehicle Act affecting motorcycle helmets and motorcycle passengers. Effective June 1, 2012 all motorcycle riders who are not exempt will have to wear an approved motorcycle helmet that bears approval markings showing that they comply with established standards.
