Investigating Personation

Ticket WriterIt was always a challenge when the violator failed to produce their driver's license. Were they being truthful when they told me that they had forgotten it at home? Did the name, address and birth date that they gave me belong to someone else? That honest face was occasionally nothing more than window dressing.

VIEWPOINT - Police Should Fight Crime

SoapboxFirst off no disrespect to any police I have a problem when day in day out police are pulling people over for traffic violations and road blocks etc but there are so much crime going on in B.C city's and town's and not to mention police corruption and getting caught for what ever it might be petty or not but we as tax payers pay large amounts of money each year to keep us all safe and for the R.C.M.P up hold the law's but I have y

Q&A - The Officer Didn't See the Offence

Q&A ImageI am curious how is it that it is possible for an officer to issue a ticket without actually witnessing the alleged offense, and only going by a couple of witness calls that likely do not have the plate number of the alleged offender and in a location that is not specific?

Q&A - Failure to stop at a stop sign.

Q&A ImageOver a year ago, my husband came to pick me up after work a little after 11 pm.  We live in a town of 20,000 people and it was a wed night, traffic is not very busy at the worst of times. He pulled into the left turn lane, saw nobody coming in from any direction and then instead of coming to a complete stop, sort of rolled to an almost stop and then kept going.

Q&A - Publicising Speeding Enforcement

Q&A ImageWhy are radar locations are allowed to be broadcast on the radio road reports? I have seen, so many times, people drive slow where they know radar is, only to start speeding once they get past them. Isn't the idea of radar to catch the speeders?

Q&A - Trouble With the Towing Company

Q&A ImageI was given a 24 hour Driving Prohibition in Richmond BC in December 2009. When I called the tow company after 24 hours to get their address, I was told that there was a police hold on the Vehicle. This so called hold carried on until I contacted the RCMP Officer who had issued me the 24 Hr Suspension.

Q&A - Notice and Order #2

Q&A ImageI was pulled over yesterday by a member of the police and issued a ticket and inspection order for illegal front window tint. I asked that I be able to remove the tint myself and then present the vehicle and notice to a peace officer.

Q&A - Blame it on the Weather

Q&A ImageThere's an article in the paper about a motor vehicle that skidded then flipped and landed on its roof in the ditch during a heavy hailstorm. A police spokesperson said the cause of the crash was attributed to the weather and no charges are being contemplated.

Unlicenced Drivers and Vehicle Impounds

Vehicle ImpoundTaking your neighbour's request at face value turned out to be an expensive lesson for Jessica. She had loaned her vehicle to a neighbour and somewhere along the journey the neighbour met up with the police. The neighbour was a vehicle impound candidate because they didn't have a valid driver's license and Jessica was now faced with making an application to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles to attempt to have her vehicle returned to her before the end of the impoundment period.

Q&A - Why Aren't the Police Enforcing Traffic Laws?

Q&A ImageIt seems that there is traffic policing of only three things in the Okanagan Valley: speeding, seat belts and alcohol. There seems to be effectively no policing of driving habits in the Okanagan. Consequently we now have a majority of drivers not using signals to change lanes. A large percentage seems to have no idea that a left turn should end up in the left lane and right lane on a right turn.
