Q&A - No Pedestrian Crossing

Q&A ImageQ: I am confused by this sign on Pandora Avenue in Victoria that seems to indicate no pedestrian crossing to vehicle traffic yet there is nothing to tell the pedestrian not to cross the street here. There is even a wheelchair ramp encouraging pedestrians to cross. I suspect that there are more examples of this in the area. Can you explain what that sign means?

Q&A - Using Cell Phone GPS While Driving

Q&A ImageQ: I want to ask a question about disputing a traffic ticket. I’ve searched through this site and most talk about touching the phone, but in my case I did not touch the phone but simply bent over to correctly read the map direction. Unfortunately I didn’t have a mounting device and the phone was placed near the gear/side break (hence the bending over slightly to the right to see it).

Q&A - Entering Angled Parking

Q&A ImageIs it legal to pull into a head-in angled parking spot on the opposite side of the street (crossing a solid yellow line)?

Scenario: Heavy traffic both ways.  Lots of cars waiting for parking spots to open up on both sides of the street.  Solid yellow line/single lane traffic.

Q&A - Pleasure use Only

Q&A Image

So I was rear ended today. There was no damage to my truck, but the car that hit me didn't come out of it too well. I phoned into ICBC to make an accident report. Through the process, I had told them that the guy who hit me was a pizza delivery guy. Turns out he had pleasure use only on his insurance. My question is, how will this affect his claim seeing he was working with his car at the time?

Q&A - Adding Reflective Tape to My Vehicle

Q&A ImageI am looking for clarification on Section 4.21 Reflective Devices of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, to make sure that my plans to put additional reflective tape on my personal-use vehicle will comply with regulations.

Q&A - Turning right off Canada Way onto Kensington

Q&A ImageTheres another article in Burnaby Now about RCMP ticketing drivers that are skipping the two dedicated turn lanes and make a simple right turn at the intersection proper.

Q&A - 5 Tickets in 1 Stop

Q&A ImageQ: I was served 2 violation tickets. I’d like an inquiry about what I’d be looking forward to in court. I was served one count of excessive speed MVA 148(1), prohibited use of HOV, and fail to display ‘N’ sign. Also gave me a charge of operating MV with Cannabis in vehicle. Prior to that I was an N class driver with 30 months clean driving, I had not went for a class 5 test due to preoccupations.

Q&A - Backing Out of a Driveway Across a Lane of Traffic?

Q&A ImageIs it legal to back out of a driveway across a lane of traffic?  I thought this wasn't legal but I can't find anything in the MVA.

Q&A - Flat Towing a Vehicle

Q&A ImageI've looked at the regs for brakes on trailers, but I'm not sure how it would apply to flat towing a vehicle. My '92 Jeep weighs in around 3,000 lbs (spec curb weight is ‎2,855–3,241 lb (1,295–1,470 kg)). We'd be pulling it with a 2015 Yukon 4WD (rated towing weight 8200 lb/ 3719 kg, curb weight 5707 lb / 2588 kg).

The regs say:

Q&A - Hockey Stick Pipes

Q&A ImageI met a new Canadian yesterday, in his large car, and the visor was SO low that there is only (what looked to be, I didn't go over and measure) like 2 feet from the hood to the bottom of the visor. I understand the benefits of a drop visor, but this is taking an aftermarket improvement, to the absolute extreme.
