Q&A - Ticketed for Crossing Double Solid Line to Avoid a Collision

Q&A ImageI have been ticketed for crossing a double yellow line just before the end of the right hand lane in a passing zone. The reason for this manoeuvre was I had been in the right lane and catching up to another vehicle, I switched to the left lane to overtake the slower moving vehicle, I estimate the speed variation to be around 30 KPH.

Q&A - Ticketed for Slow Driving

Q&A ImageI just got home from my week of driving and today I received a ticket for "Slow Driving" which I don't understand or agree with.

Q&A - Cyclists, Pedestrians and Pathways

Q&A ImageFor years I've thought about sending this question to you. This is regarding the issue of "walk on left, ride on right". I have always understood that on any road/path with no sidewalk that is shared by pedestrians and vehicles (including bicycles), the pedestrians should keep to the left facing traffic, and the vehicles keep to the right.

Q&A - Vehicle Noise, Speeding and Lack of Effective Policing

Q&A imageA large majority of drivers have simply forgot about traffic laws, safety and respect for others. Daily, one can see many drivers traveling at 20-50 km/hr faster then the posted speed limits. The problem is so bad that some of us residents have formed a Concerned Residents Committee to help us voice our concerns for a solution to this on-going problem.

Q&A ImageCan someone with their N have more than one friend in the car if they are the designated driver?

Q&A - Too Many Points

Q&A imageBeing a young person I don't have the best driving record. I have 13 points in the last 5 years couple of speeding tickets a failure to signal and a no drivers license (I had a license but it wasn't on me it was at home). So after 2 speeding tickets in the last 2 years I got rid of the motorcycle and the fast car and grew up.

Q&A - 24 Hour Prohibition for Drug Use

Q&A ImageThis past year my 18yr old son was stopped and ticketed for having an extra passenger in his vehicle. It was late in the evening and they had been at a party. He was designated driver that evening and had not been drinking or doing drugs. However, the constable that stopped him pointed her flashlight in his eyes and accused him of being on drugs. She decided this in mere seconds of observation.

Q&A - Back Alleys

Q&A ImageFor a few months now I have been trying to locate specific information on the rules of the road pertaining to back lanes and alleyways. Simply trying to get a concrete source on the speed limit of back lanes, especially those running along school zones, has been incredibly difficult.

Q&A - Why do They Need my Birthdate?

Q&A ImageWhy does the RCMP call taker make me feel like not ever calling in reports of impaired drivers anymore? (And I am not the only one that has commented on this).

I have always felt it as my duty to alert RCMP if there is an impaired driver on the road. I am willing to provide my name, my address, my phone number, and the pertinent details about the vehicle / driver etc. etc.

Q&A - Blacked Out Insurance Papers

Q&A ImageA few months ago there was an article published stating that your name and address should be blacked out on your auto insurance papers, so in the event that your auto was stolen with the garage door opener in it, the thieves would not have easy access to your home and address. It went on to say that all the info that the police require would be on your drivers licence.
