Q&A - 4 Wheeler Gripe

Q&A ImageI'm a semi truck driver and I've been cut off so many times by passenger vehicles racing around me to take an off ramp. They pull in front and hit their brakes. It's been close a couple times to the point I'm going to buy a dashcam to protect myself.

NEWS - Penalty Points for Distracted Driving Behaviours

province of bcI'm sure that you have heard by now that the BC government has announced penalty points to go with a violation ticket for talking on a handheld device while driving. This new penalty, which also covers infractions like watching a DVD, programming a phone’s GPS, and operating hand-held audio players, is being combined with the $167 fine already in place and is now consistent with the three points and $167 fine currently given to drivers for texting.

Q&A - I Was Not Stunting

New Driver Signs 2011I was driving my parents car a few days ago it is a Mustang and I got it impounded for 7 days. The police officer accused me of doing a burnout, revving the engine and fishtailing. Not once did i rev my engine or do a burnout I do admit to fishtailing. The fishtailing was not intentional at all, my traction control and everything was on, it just happened.

BC's Bad Driver of the Week

Perhaps a public shaming could be effective in convincing some drivers that they need to share the roadway a bit better with the rest of us. Now that I have my own dash cam I am in a position to highlight how some people put themselves ahead of others when it comes to convenience over road safety. This particular driver overtook on the painted traffic island on Mostar Road in Nanaimo, B.C.

VIEWPOINT - Saw a preventable crash today

SoapboxWell, most crashes are preventable, even mechanical failure to some degree.

This rainy morning, as I was descending down a 10% grade coming up on an intersection, I observed two cars: grey Pontiac G5 being followed at about 3 feet distance by a large black Dodge Ram 1500.

Both vehicles were in the middle lane of a 3 lane street, where traffic 'typically' travels around 60km/h.

PHOTOS OF CONCERN - Overweight

cameraThis interesting looking vehicle was checked at the Parksville weigh scale. As evidenced by the tops of the rear tires almost scrubbing against the top of the wheel wells, it was considerably overweight. Commercial trucks are not the only vehicles on the highway that may be removed from the highway if safe loading rules are not followed, this one was too. The driver likely didn't need to look at the vehicle capacity ratings on the sticker in the driver's door opening area to know that he should not have loaded the car like this, but if he had, it would have told him the maximum safe weights for the load.
