VIDEO - First on Scene

video iconWould you know what to do if you were the first on scene following a crash on the highway? This 16 minute video from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety explains in general what to do at the roadside to make a significant difference for the victims.

VIDEO - Three Invisible Pedestrians

video iconThere're quite a few accidents daily in Vancouver, pedestrians being hit. Just last night, someone was hit in New West and they had to close Stewardson Way. Its crazy the way people walk here. Full deep black is not visible through a wet screen with a thousand lights flashing in your eyes from the oncoming cars lights.

BC Bad Driver of the Week: 580MPP

I suspect this driver changed their mind about which way to go after setting up for a left turn just a bit too far into cross traffic. You can see one vehicle turn right from behind him as we approach and a second vehicle prepare to do so. After passing we see this driver turn right instead. Perhaps not turning into the curb lane as he should have prevented a collision with the right turn vehicle behind.

VIDEO - Sharing the Road

video iconThis short video from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety looks at how the driver can safely share the road with other types of road users. Pedestrians, motorcycles and heavy trucks are included in the presentation.

Sometimes your day just doesn't go right. This driver found himself driving the wrong way and trapped there by the median when he tried to turn left. Fortunately we both stopped before we ran into each other and I waited patiently while he decided what to do. The other oncoming lanes were too busy to try a U turn, so he chose to back out and continue, probably to the correct left turn bay.

VIDEO - The Unpredictable Pedestrian

video iconA lot can happen in just the 23 seconds of this video contributed by Orang Gila, taken in Maple Ridge, just past the Safeway at Dewdney Trunk Road. Keep an eye out for the pedestrian on the right sidewalk mid-block who is clearly dithering about crossing the street and is having difficulty finding a large enough gap in the four lanes of traffic that she must cross on the busy street.

VIDEO - Alcohol Interlocks

video iconHere's another video courtesy of TAC Victoria in Australia. A middle aged mother speaks about having to drive with an ignition interlock in her car following an impaired driving infraction. It's not only inconvenient, if you have any personal pride it is also embarrassing.

BC Bad Driver of the Week - 971JPV

One does not need to do anything overtly dangerous to be considered a bad driver. Simple thoughtlessness or failing to consider other road users can create a hazardous situation as well. This driver decided to stop in the center of his lane, leave his door open and tie his shoe. Everyone else was welcome to drive around him.

BC Bad Driver of the Week - 790PLE and HP7527

This video, submitted by Orang Gila features two drivers in Port Moody, B.C. He describes the incident: "1st vehicle 790PLE Black BMW overtaking from right and speeding between vehicles. 2nd Vehicle HP7527 Black Dodge Ram chases him until traffic light. Then almost causes accident. NOT distracted driving, I'm sure!"

VIDEO - TED Talk Featuring Steven Levitt on Child Restraints

video iconSteven Levitt shares data that shows car seats are no more effective than seatbelts in protecting kids aged 2 to 6 years old from dying in cars. However, during the Q&A, he makes one crucial caveat regarding a medical study that shows car seats significantly reduce injury.
