PROGRAM - Driving for Better Business
Driving for Better Business is a national campaign sponsored by the Secretary of State for Transport. The aim of the program is to "Raise awareness of the importance of work-related road safety in the business community and public sector by using advocates drawn from these communities to promote the business benefits of managing it effectively." This came about from the advent of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act in April 2008 which could hold employers criminally responsible for the acts of their employees when driving company vehicles or any other vehicle while on company business.
Similar provisions were added to Canada's criminal laws making it even more important to develop business strategies that control driving risk, establish rules that define an employee's role in company driving safety, audit your fleet safety and communicate with employees to insure your program is meeting it's goals.
Regardless of the fact that your fleet may be only a few vehicles or thousands of vehicles, the employer must be proactive to protect employees, the public and your business.
