Speeding and Aggressive Driving
Have you heard the following slogans in the last few weeks? "Breathe - Tailigating won't help. Give yourself time and space to react. Keep your distance." and "Chill. So you're running behind. Better to arrive late than not at all. Please slow down."
If so, you are aware of the current traffic safety campaign that ends on August 31. If you already practice this, or you listened and adjusted your driving style, congratulations, you are part of the solution! If not, you are the part of the problem that the slogans are aimed at.
Our unit is experiencing a significant increase in driving complaints. Where I would receive one or two in a block of shifts, today I am receiving two or three in a single shift. Does this mean that aggressive driving is on the increase or that people are more aware of the problem and are more likely to report these drivers to the police?
Either way, the complaints are important and we try to look into each one. If you do decide to make a complaint, please provide as much information as possible. The licence number, vehicle description, precise location and direction of travel will insure that I have a much better chance of finding the problem in progress and dealing with it successfully.
Time is of the essence. Don't hesitate to make the complaint if the driving behaviour is truly dangerous. Every minute of delay means that the driver has a better chance of evading patrols.
