SKILLS - Take the Virtual Road Test
The Insurance Bureau of Canada's web site contains a virtual road test to see how multi-tasking affects your reaction time. The test is taken from the driver's point of view and you are only required to operate two controls, the spacebar for braking and the mouse to perform the extra task that divides your attention and interferes with your reaction to driving events that you encounter. The time between the occurrence of the event and you reacting to it is shown. Of course, real world driving uses far more than two simple tasks, so if you think you have problems in the virtual drive it will definitely be worse in the real world!
