HELP! We Want Dad to Stop Driving

key with car in backgroundHelp! My father is 87 and has had a minor accident. My sibling and I would like to see him give up his license and keep him safe, not to mention others. He won't give it up freely! We don't want to be disinherited either! Who or what do we contact without him knowing? I have tried the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, who is no help as they want a report.

Dear RoadSafetyBC

BC LogoGather a group of traffic enforcement officers for coffee and doughnuts at Tim Hortons and we'll sit and swap stories about what we have seen and shake our heads in amazement. Sometimes it's an attempt to avoid PTSD and others it's because we genuinely can't believe that someone would behave this way. I think I might have heard one that will be almost impossible to top this past weekend.

Q&A - Doctor's Fee for DMER

Q&A ImageQ: Why is there such a discrepancy in price for a medical exam for people turning 80 years old? My doctor quoted $80 before he retired and when I went to a walk in clinic to get the test recently it was $200. That seems quite unfair to me.

Thoughts on the Decision to Stop Driving

Senior DriverWe have built our world around the convenience of the motor vehicle. Without one, our focus suddenly becomes much more narrow. Are you prepared to cope with the decision to stop driving when the time comes?

The Enhanced Road Assessment

key with car in backgroundThe new year will bring changes to how drivers are re-examined to insure that they are safe to continue to drive. Current DriveABLE testing will be replaced by an Enhanced Road Assessment (ERA) that will be administered by ICBC at no cost. The ERA has been developed by RoadSafetyBC after surveying driver re-testing in other jurisdictions and is aimed at providing greater transparency for participants.
