Do You Know Someone Who Should Not be Driving?

Bad DriverI often hear comments that a friend or family member should not be driving. This person is usually either an older driver or a person suffering from health issues known to the person making the comment. These people also wish that someone would do something about it.

Motorcycle Driver Licencing

MotorcycleBack on the 25th of July I wrote about the rash of motorcycle collisions on Vancouver Island. Most were attributed to driver error and I wrote that the Graduated Licencing Program gave new drivers plenty of time to develop their skills before moving on to the next stage.

Driver's Licence Restrictions

New Driver SignsMy girls attend high school and daily I watch as many of these students fill their cars with friends while displaying the "N". I spoke to my girls about this and they said that these young people just ignore that stipulation because no one checks and it is a nuisance being allowed to only carry one passenger.

Driving Without a Licence

BC Driver's LicenceA reader has asked "What would happen to me if I was caught driving without a drivers licence?" It is a question that will expose serious consequences for you and the owner of the vehicle you are driving if it is not your own. I will confine my answer to the situation where you don't have a driver's licence either because you did not get one, it was expired or you did not have it properly reinstated after a suspension or prohibition.

More on Driver's Licence Restrictions

BC Driver's LicenceMany drivers have what are referred to as restrictions on their driver's license. These restrictions may be limiting, such as being allowed a maximum number of passengers if you are in the Graduated Licensing Program or having to wear corrective lenses if your eyesight does not meet minimum standards. They may also be empowering as is the case with being allowed to operate air brake equipped vehicles or tow a trailer with a Gross Vehicle Weight over 4, 600 kg. In all cases, restrictions must be obeyed, or the driver will find themselves in difficulty if they are stopped by the police or they are involved in a collision.

Motorcycle Driver's Licence Restrictions

BC Driver's LicenceThis week must be disobey restriction week for learner motorcycle riders. I attended an off road left collision involving a learner driver on a motorcycle. He was restricted to having an instructor aged 25+ and a speed of no more than 60 km/h. The instructor was 21 and explained that they couldn't have been doing more than 70 in the 60 zone before the crash.
