Q&A - Driving Without Tail Lights at Night

Q&A ImageI commute every day from Buckley Bay to Parksville in the morning and back after work. It is dark in the morning and still darkish in the evening.

I try to keep a “driving diary” to alert myself to repeated issues. One of the things that has been appearing frequently in my diary is “truck or car in front of me driving without lights”.

Q&A - Driver's Licence for 15 Passenger Van

Q&A ImageI would like to use a 15 Passenger Van for a pleasure use trip and am wondering if a class 5 license is valid for this use? I have read CCMTA guidelines for the use of 15-Passenger Vans and it seems that for pleasure use a class 5 license is valid. But I'd like to confirm.

Q&A - Alarm Sirens as Horns

motorcycleCan anyone please tell me if there is any provision in law to be allowed to use a siren type of alarm noise generated by say a bike alarm to be used as part of your horn mechanism.

One huge problem for bikes is that cars don't see or hear you very well. Having a loud siren type of horn as a last ditch attempt to show people where I am on the road would make a big difference.

Q&A - Air Horns on Bicycles

Q&A ImageA friend tells me I might be breaking the law by having an air horn on my bike.

He told me how he had been stopped and nearly gotten a ticket in 2000 in Vancouver for having a similar but not identical air horn (his came with a precharged gas canister - mine you pump by hand) He says the cop cited a regulation/law.

Q&A Imageevery week or so, I haul a load of dead fish to another town, in a 53 foot tanker. This trailer is loaded by the fish producers, then it is sealed, brought out to the highway, where I pick it up and begin my 3 hour trip to deliver.
