ICBC is the provincial agency responsible for driver licensing. The corporation maintains related information and if you need a driving record for your employer or to serve as a volunteer you can download the driving record from ICBC's website for free.

When we think of distracted driving, most of us immediately consider cell phone use. While this might be the most common example used in distracted driving campaigns, it is certainly not the only one. Any action that takes the drivers attention off of the driving task is distracting and is to be avoided.

I was recently towed from a business lot in Kelowna and my car was impounded. The lot is quite large and services multiple businesses. There are no signs when you enter the lot to indicate that it is a private lot.

Since leaving CMBC, I have been driving a senior's society's bus. Metro Vancouver has roads with lanes signed to show they are for HOV, Buses only, Vanpool & Buses, or "Authorized Vehicles only". If the bus is empty, I don't use an HOV lane, but will use the Buses only, and Vanpool & buses only lanes.  When full, I use the HOV, Buses only, and Vanpool & Buses lanes.

You probably never give it much thought, hop in, throw on the seatbelt and drive away. Chances are that if it's your vehicle you don't have to adjust the seat either. I wonder if you've ever read your owner's manual on properly adjusting your seat or your seatbelt? For those of you who have not or don't remember, here's a video from the IIHS to help make sure that you are effectively restrained in the event of a crash. It's the best way to minimize your chance of injury or death if you can't avoid the collision.

Question: I was hoping if someone could point me in the direction of any laws on cars using private driveways to turn around. I have many cars using my driveway to do two-point turns to change directions and it's driving me a bit crazy. One car nearly hit my daughter who was in the driveway having just got out of my car.

A common question asked by visitors to this web site is "Am I at fault?" Usually this is asked in relation to a collision that they have been involved in and don't think that ICBC's apportioning of blame is fair to their circumstances.

One of the major television stations from Vancouver broadcast a news story this past week about pedestrians as a follow up piece for a report on a family that was struck down in a newly marked crosswalk.

Our provincial government has announced an update of the Road Safety Strategy 2015 to adopt a Vision Zero approach to road safety using a Safe Systems model. This means "that road safety developments must account for the inevitability of human error, limitations of the human body in withstanding force, and the responsibility of road and vehicle designers, policy makers and road users for road safety."
