RESEARCH - Safety Impact of Speed Limiter Devices
Speed limiters or governors, are devices that control a vehicle engine to only permit reaching a pre-programmed maximum speed. The limited response to this study suggests that limiters reduce the occurrence of crashes, save fuel and reduce tire wear. A drawback would include trucks making up for a lack of top speed by driving faster in speed zones that are slower than the limiter's setting.
This synthesis includes research and information from North America, Australia and Europe.
