Quote From the Manual
The Canadian Automobile Association’s (CAA) School Safety Patrol Program has been in operation for nearly a century. Student volunteers from grades five to seven participate in the BCAA School Safety Patrol Program in schools throughout British Columbia. In addition to providing safe passage in school zones for their fellow students, Patrollers develop important personal skills including leadership, teamwork, volunteerism and a sense of social responsibility.
Requirements for Participation
To participate in the BCAA School Safety Program, your school must have a designated school administrator or teacher to coordinate the program.
School Patrol Training
BCAA provides a training video to show student volunteers how to conduct a safe school patrol along with a manual that outlines how to conduct a training session.
Student Resources
Each patroller receives a handbook at the end of the training session. It is used to review the patrol procedures and safety practices. Parents are encouraged to read the handbook as well.
School Patrol Equipment
The equipment provided by the BCAA for a school patrol consists of hand held stop signs, whistles, high visibility vests, reflective wrist bands and traffic cones.
BCAA says that there are currently more than 1000 students acting as patrollers in British Columbia this year.
