Canada Road Safety Week 2025

Canada Road Safety Week imageCanada Road Safety Week is an enforcement driven initiative led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Traffic Safety Committee. The campaign is held around the May long weekend and promotes the awareness of safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canadian roads.

Every Road. Every Day. Everyone.

The theme for this campaign is "Every Road. Every Day. Everyone." This reminds Canadians that they are in control of their driving on Canada’s roads and that they should be adopting safe driving behaviours to keep themselves, their passengers, other drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians safe.

Focus on the Most Risk

The campaign is focused on driving behaviours that hold the most risk:

  • drug impaired driving
  • alcohol impaired driving
  • fatigue impaired driving
  • distracted driving
  • aggressive driving
  • driving without a seatbelt

Road Safety and You

Do you really need to be told not to behave this way when you drive? Choosing to follow the rules is the sign of a responsible person who is willing to cooperate with other road users. Driving is not a competition!

Road Safety and the Police

Some of us are willing to take that risk for themselves and any other road user that they might meet during their trip. This is where the policing part of this campaign becomes important.

The listed behaviours are the primary focus of every day traffic policing in BC already. You can see traffic ticket information for your local area using ICBC's Contraventions Data. This will tell you if the police are doing regular enforcement and what types of driving misbehaviour they are issuing traffic tickets for.

Global Road Safety Week 2025

The 8th UN Global Road Safety Week, scheduled for the 12th to18th of May, provides an opportunity to spur action at national and local levels to make walking and cycling safe. This week aims to highlight concrete and specific interventions that can be undertaken by various stakeholders, including governments, international agencies, civil society, businesses, and schools, to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
