Last September the Parents Advisory Committee (PAC) at the Ecole Oceanside Elementary School in Parksville asked me to help establishing a crossing guard program for what they considered to be a dangerous intersection at one corner of the school grounds. In past, the principal had raised the issue of liability concerns that needed to be looked into and that was the end of the conversation.

Sandra Lepitre parked her car at the curb in front of 2871 Aurora Road in North Vancouver and walked to work from there. At lunchtime, Amrinder Singh and Jaskirat Singh Sekhon, who had been working at a nearby construction site, sat on the street in front of Ms. Lepitre's car to eat. While they were there, Ms. Lepitre returned to her car intending to drive off on an errand. She struck both men.

This video caught my attention as Dr. Doebel starts out by talking about how difficult it is to learn to drive. She explained that it was not due to learning later on in life rather than at 16 and that she would come back from her lessons totally wiped out. It was due to heavy use of the brain's executive function.

Mirror, signal, shoulder check, move. These are the four steps for a successful lane changes. Simple enough one would expect, until you watch what goes on around you in traffic today.

This is a unique case that has created a bit of a media buzz since it's release. Gabriel Milne was driving on the Malahat Highway near Langford and chose to pass a small tourist bus that had slowed aggressively in front of him. He changed lanes to do this and during the lane change noticed a transport truck that was overtaking him move into the left lane as well.

In December of 2015 RoadSafetyBC published the BC Communities Road Safety Survey. It's goal was to provide an overview of the municipal road safety activities and identify the challenges that might be limiting progress towards the goal of having the safest roads in North America by 2020.

Of 189 municipalities in the province, 81 responded. Those responses raised the following points:

The B.C. Coroner's Service has released a report that summarizes all accidental, traffic-related pedestrian deaths that occurred between January 1, 2012, and November 30, 2021.

I volunteer for Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Canada and have had a little brother from the time he was 5 until now when he recently celebrated 16th birthday and got his L for driving. His Mom being a single parent that works a couple jobs doesn’t have a lot of extra money for driving lessons. I thought I’d help out teaching him to drive.

Our highways are not for the exclusive use of motor vehicles. Bicycles, pedestrians, equestrians and others may be expected to use their fair share of the highway as well. In fact, in some ways the shoulder of the road could be considered to be their domain and not that of the driver.

Jarod Eide was ticketed for using an electronic device while driving on December 13, 2017. He did not enter his dispute of the allegation within the required 30 days of having received the ticket. Subsequently, he applied for an extension of time to dispute on May 11, 2018 and it was denied by Judicial Justice Adair.
