Tips for Passing Your ICBC Road Test

ICBC LogoThese seven tips presented by ICBC may be used to successfully pass your road test, regardless of whether you drive a passenger vehicle, commercial vehicle or a motorcycle. For those of you who are already licensed drivers, these are seven tips that you should still be aware of so that you continue to drive safely and courteously.

1. Watch Your Speed

Failing to slow down in school and playground zones is a common error on a class 7 or 8 road test. Watch carefully for the signs.

Don't follow other drivers if they are travelling over the posted speed limit.

2. Keep Your Distance

Following too closely is a common driving error made by many drivers. Maintaining a safe following distance is crucial to maintaining a space cushion that gives you time to avoid a collision.

3. Come to a Complete Stop

A complete cessation of movement at the proper place is what is required here.

4. Scan Intersections Carefully

You should scan 180 degrees before proceeding on a new green light and at any intersection before you enter it.

Over half of collisions occur in intersections so you must be sure that they are safe to enter.

5. Shoulder Check

A shoulder check is required before turning or changing lanes. Doing this properly will identify other road users before you move into their paths.

6. Make Clean Turns

Always turn out of and into the proper lane at an intersection. Maintaining your lane position while you do this is a must. No cutting corners here!

7. Practice, Practice, Practice!

It doesn't matter what skill you are trying to master, practice makes perfect. Practice will also increase your confidence, making is easier for you to relax and pass the test.
