Q&A - Yielding to a Left Turning Vehicle
Q: I have a question that I have been unable to find an answer for in the BC Motor Vehicle Act, on your site or through a Google search.... I'm hoping you can please help.
Lately during my morning commute in Courtenay, BC - there have been several drivers who have chosen to stop (mid-traffic flow) along the Old Island Hwy (5th Street - heading south) to allow vehicles waiting in the two way left hand turning lane (center median) to make a left hand turn into the Lewis Centre parking lot. I believe this is illegal and when traffic is flowing, drivers are not allowed to stop (unless it is for safety reasons)?! Can you please shed some light on this topic?
I am also wondering if it is illegal for these drivers to stop traffic, (trying to be nice I'm sure) - would it be something that local police/traffic control would ticket people for?
As I am finding it increasingly difficult to not be annoyed by these drivers - I should likely find another route to work.
