Has the manufacturer of your vehicle issued a safety related recall? Transport Canada's Vehicle Recalls On-Line Database makes short work of answering this question for you. Simply enter the make, model and year of your vehicle and find out immediately if you should be concerned.
Ask Alexa About a Recall
If you are tech savvy, you can now check for vehicle recalls on Alexa. According to Amazon:
Vehicle Recalls Canada provides a quick and easy way to search for passenger vehicle and light truck recalls. Just provide the make, model, and year of the vehicle and you’ll get information straight from the Transport Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database. If you have a phone number associated with your Alexa account, you can receive recall information by text message.
Under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act it is the manufacturer's responsibility to notify you if your vehicle is the subject of a recall. Checking yourself can help avoid not being notified through error or oversight.
Contacting the Manufacturers
If you are not the original owner of the vehicle, Transport Canada's site also contains contact information for manufacturers so that you can register with them to have recall information sent directly to you.
It Really is a Safety Issue
Transport Canada reminds you that when your vehicle is subject to a recall, you should have it repaired right away to ensure it is safe. If you own a vehicle, you are responsible for your personal safety, the safety of anyone who drives the vehicle, your passengers and other road users.
You must also consider anyone who owns the car after you.
Free Repairs
The manufacturer will almost always make these repairs free of charge. This is not something you should miss out on as failing to make the repairs could cause warranty problems in the future.
