REPORT - Administrative Alcohol and Drug Related Driving Prohibitions

BC LogoDriving while impaired by alcohol or other drugs continues to be a significant problem in British Columbia, our Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) notwithstanding. While it has saved lives, we still have a long way to go. RoadSafetyBC (the new name of the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles) publishes data on the IRP program for the public's review.

Q&A - Emergency Equipment for Volunteer Firefighters

Q&A ImageJust wondering what "discharge of a members duties" means? Also I'm wondering why BC doesn't have a flashing light policy for Volunteer Firefighters? There are quite a few volunteer halls here in Victoria that would benefit in response times if they could utilize flashing lights and possibly even sirens.

Coloured Fuel

Gasoline Pump NozzleIf you visit a service station in a farming area of BC you may see a fuel pump with the legend of marked gas or coloured fuel. Look a little closer and you will find the price to be lower than normal regular fuel. Don't be tempted to fill your tank with it unless you are specifically authorized to use coloured fuel as the penalties may be significant.

Q&A - Speeding Ticket on the Georgia Viaduct

Q&A ImageI got a speeding ticket today at Georgia Viaduct and here is what happened: I was driving down Georgia St (middle lane) heading east.  Knowing that Georgia Viaduct is a speed trap (I received a ticket at the same spot two years ago), I stayed behind a Grey Mazda 3 and made sure I was within the speed limit (around 50km/hr).

Q&A - Adding Extra Reflectors

Q&A ImageI drive a Toyota Corolla sedan and a lot of time do night driving. For the safety of me, my family and other road users, Can I stick additional red reflecting tape (that’s available in Canadian Tire) on the rear bumper of my car? I did a search on Google but I did not get a definitive answer.
