I would appreciate your comments on the lack of any formal vehicle inspection program in BC. I understand that there is testing for vehicle emissions in the greater urban areas on the Lower Mainland, but there is no proactive testing for facets of vehicle safety such as brake condition, tire wear, light function, bodywork and frame rusting etc.
I am often asked why school buses are manufactured without seatbelts. We are all accustomed to using them in our cars and know that they are a significant factor in reducing injury or death in a collision. If this is the case, shouldn't our children have the same benefit when they are bused to and from school?

I'm sure that you have already determined that if I don't write this column based on reader requests, I write about something that I have seen happen around me in traffic. This column is no different, and it is about a behaviour that struck me when I was using the freeway in Vancouver recently.
Being stopped by the police often startles drivers. I've seen everything from jamming on the brakes and stopping in the middle of the lane to following oblivious drivers for many kilometers before they caught sight of my emergency lights.
My job requires me to pull over and park for a short period of time on the freeway. There is sufficient space to pull off and I'm not obstructing a lane but I'm wondering what the regulations are in respect to signaling and signage.
