BCAA School Patrol Program

image of a school patrol at workThe school patrol Program is a public service provided free of charge to elementary schools by the BCAA. Part of the CAA's School Safety Patrol Program it is recognized as an outstanding initiative for reducing injuries and deaths among 5-12 year olds.

Road Safety for Seniors

Road Safety for Seniors is a seminar or webinar that I created to present as part of Vancouver Island University's Elder College program in the early 2000s. It has evolved from a single three hour presentation to an eight hour presentation held in two hour sessions over a period of four weeks.

Canada Road Safety Week 2025

Canada Road Safety Week imageCanada Road Safety Week is an enforcement driven initiative led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Traffic Safety Committee. The campaign is held around the May long weekend and promotes the awareness of safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canadian roads.

RESEARCH - E-Survey of Road Users’ Attitudes

E-Survey of Road Users Attitudes LogoAccording to the website, the E-Survey of Road Users' Attitudes (ESRA) is a joint initiative of road safety institutes, research centres, public services, and private sponsors from all over the world. The aim is to collect and analyse comparable data on road safety performance and road safety culture. The ESRA data are used as a basis for a large set of road safety indicators. These provide scientific evidence for policy making at national and international levels.

RESEARCH - Social Norming Used to Improve Pedestrian Safety

Pedestrian CrossingThe City of St. Paul, Minnesota has created an innovative program to increase driver compliance with the requirement to yield to pedestrians at unsignalized marked crosswalks in the city. Prior to this initiative, The study initially observed 32% of drivers yielding and frequent multiple threat passing incidents.
