The Danes love their bikes, and the Danish capital of Copenhagen is the world’s most cycle-friendly city. One problem, helmets have never become as popular as cycling itself. The case of Taskov v McDonagh stems from a collision at the intersection of East 49th Avenue and Victoria Drive in Vancouver. Dragomir Taskov was driving eastbound on East 49th Avenue intending to make a left turn onto Victoria Drive. He was operating as an Uber driver with a fare. Katherine McDonagh was westbound on East 49th and collided with Mr. Taskov.

Question: A pedestrian was on the sidewalk mid block and an approaching driver stopped to allow the pedestrian to jay walk. The car in the adjacent lane behind this driver stopped abruptly and almost caused a collision because the car following that vehicle was not expecting the stop. Should the second car have stopped or just kept going?

Here is a public safety video from the province of Quebec that has the aim of convincing pedestrians to cross in crosswalks rather than jaywalking. Here in B.C. jaywalking or crossing the road at a place other than a crosswalk is generally not illegal and may not be as unsafe as some people think. Could you do an article on wide commercial loads when a pilot car is used? The reason I am asking is that I almost got run down once when a wide load came over into my lane, oncoming, to swing wide in order to make a right turn. Understandable, except there was no warning because the pilot car had already made the turn and was nowhere in sight.

The case of Borgford v Ball involves a collision at the intersection of 190 Street and 34A Avenue in Surrey. Although the speed limit was 50 km/h, both drivers were travelling at about 90 km/h. Ms. Borgford was operating a Dodge Avenger westbound on 34A Avenue and Ms. Ball was operating a Dodge Ram 2500 northbound on 190 Street.
